Job description
Structured overview of role & requirements
About This Role
- Design and implement Rust-to-GPU compiler pipelines including rustc codegen backends and Rust-native IR frameworks for compiling Rust to CUDA PTX and machine code.
- Develop and optimize compiler intermediate representations (IRs) such as MLIR, PTX, and LLVM targeting NVIDIA GPUs supporting ahead-of-time, just-in-time, and link-time optimization workflows.
- Architect compiler-enforced safety models and ergonomic device-side abstractions extending Rust safety guarantees across GPU execution and exposing advanced GPU hardware features.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field or equivalent experience.
- At least 5 years of experience in compiler development, language design, or GPU code generation.
- Deep expertise in Rust programming language including rustc internals, MIR, procedural macros, and borrow-checker/lifetime model.
- Experience with compiler infrastructures, IRs (LLVM IR, MLIR, or custom systems) and strong knowledge of parallel programming models, GPU architectures, and CUDA programming.
Ideal Candidate Profile
- Proven track record contributing to Rust compiler (rustc), Cargo tooling, or open-source Rust-to-GPU projects.
- Experience building custom compiler front-ends, AST translators, or JIT engines and familiarity with extensible compiler frameworks like MLIR.
- Strong low-level GPU programming skills including use of modern hardware features like Tensor Cores and asynchronous transfer pipelines.
