About This Role
- Own end-to-end social science research design and execution for AI evaluation projects targeting underserved communities in India.
- Build and adapt research toolkits, conduct fieldwork including qualitative methods like focus group discussions and interviews, and analyze data through a gender and intersectional lens.
- Translate research insights into evaluation frameworks, datasets, and tools that guide AI system assessment and development.
Minimum Requirements
- 2–3 years of research experience, ideally in tech, impact, or AI-related organizations.
- Degree in social science (e.g., sociology, gender studies, anthropology) or equivalent experience.
- Fluency in spoken and written Hindi and willingness to travel for fieldwork.
- Hands-on experience with qualitative research methodologies, and working data skills including SQL and some coding (Python/R).
Ideal Candidate Profile
- Experienced social science researcher with a strong grounding in gender and intersectionality relevant to Indian socio-cultural contexts.
- Comfortable working in early-stage, ambiguous research environments linking socio-technical systems and AI evaluation.
- Able to collaborate closely with engineers, integrating social science insights into AI system testing, deployment, and evaluation.
