About This Role
- Own the end-to-end design, API, testing, deployment, monitoring, and reliability of backend components or services within WPP Open.
- Build and ship production code every sprint with a test-first approach and lead incident triage and post-incident reviews.
- Mentor engineers and collaborate with cross-regional teams to explain technical trade-offs and maintain high-quality engineering practices.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience in a relevant field.
- At least 5 years professional experience in TypeScript and Node.js development, with 3 years in production software testing/maintenance/launch and 1 year in software design and architecture.
- Experience working in globally distributed teams across multiple time zones.
- Proficiency in advanced TypeScript, Node.js internals, REST API design with OpenAPI, AWS Lambda and Kubernetes, PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, MongoDB, queues like SQS, CI/CD pipeline management, automated testing, observability tools, OAuth2/OpenID Connect security protocols, and AI APIs such as Anthropic and OpenAI.
Ideal Candidate Profile
- Experienced senior backend engineer with strong ownership of service design, production health, and architectural documentation.
- Comfortable working asynchronously across international teams and explaining complex technical trade-offs to product and delivery stakeholders.
- Proven ability to lead incident responses, mentor other engineers, and incorporate AI-first technologies into backend services.
