About This Role
- Customize and maintain an open-source LoRaWAN network server including message processing, device profiles, join handling, and regional configuration with maintainable code including regression tests.
- Build and operate edge/offline services: MQTT event pipelines, durable queues, SQLite/PostgreSQL storage, store-and-forward relays, and APIs with mutual TLS and role-based access.
- Deliver cross-compiled builds for multiple architectures with reproducible, offline-capable packages, implement observability (logs, metrics, tracing), and lead extensive testing including fault injection and simulators.
Minimum Requirements
- 4-5+ years of backend or systems software engineering experience.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Electronics, or related field required.
- Strong proficiency in Rust or Go (or modern C++) with a willingness to quickly improve Rust skills.
- Mandatory skills include MQTT (v5), SQL (SQLite, PostgreSQL), Redis/Valkey, gRPC, protobuf, TLS/mTLS, JWT/OIDC, Linux internals, async I/O, concurrency, Docker/OCI images, cross-compilation, and CI/CD.
Ideal Candidate Profile
- Experienced in building and maintaining network server software or backend systems with focus on reliability and maintainability in constrained environments.
- Comfortable working directly with senior architects and adopting rigorous testing, including property-based, fuzz, load, soak, and fault injection tests.
- Skilled in designing secure, scalable APIs and systems that operate offline or under limited resources, with knowledge of LoRaWAN or ChirpStack considered a strong advantage.
