About This Role
- Analyze, convert, and modernize COBOL-based mainframe applications into Java microservices and enterprise apps while maintaining business functionality and data integrity.
- Collaborate with architects, business analysts, and testing teams to deliver scalable, maintainable, and cloud-ready Java solutions.
- Support testing, deployment, troubleshooting, and create technical documentation related to application modernization projects.
Minimum Requirements
- 5-10 years of software development experience using Java (Java 8/11/17+).
- At least 2 years of mainframe development experience including COBOL, JCL, CICS, VSAM, DB2, and batch processing on z/OS.
- Hands-on experience in COBOL-to-Java transformation or application modernization projects.
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
Ideal Candidate Profile
- Experienced in analyzing large-scale legacy applications and translating business logic into modern Java architectures such as microservices with REST APIs.
- Familiarity with modern Java frameworks (Spring Boot, Spring Framework) and preferred exposure to cloud platforms (Azure/AWS/GCP) and DevOps tools (Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines).
- Able to optimize and refactor converted code beyond simple translations and collaborate across technical and business teams for successful digital transformation.
