Job description
Structured overview of role & requirements
About This Role
- Own and scale a petabyte-scale data platform on Google Cloud Platform, processing terabytes of data daily with Apache Spark and optimize cloud costs.
- Lead a small team of data engineers, mentor them, and drive engineering standards, including system design and architecture.
- Build and operate batch and streaming data pipelines, ensure data quality, and design AI-driven automated workflows for support and operations.
Minimum Requirements
- 6+ years in data or backend/software engineering with at least 4 years building big data pipelines in production.
- 1–2 years as a tech lead or team lead with experience mentoring junior engineers and owning team delivery.
- Strong hands-on experience with Apache Spark (PySpark, Spark SQL), Google Cloud Platform services (BigQuery, Dataproc, Pub/Sub, Cloud Composer), batch and stream processing.
- Expert-level SQL and strong Python and Java programming skills with object-oriented design and clean, testable code.
Ideal Candidate Profile
- Experience primarily in product or SaaS companies owning and running data platforms in production, not consulting or service delivery.
- Ability to design scalable, fault-tolerant distributed data systems with well-defended trade-offs regarding consistency, latency, cost, and failure handling.
- Demonstrated accountability and ownership of outcomes, including production reliability, cloud cost optimization, and raising engineering standards of the team.
