Sr Principal - Data Protection and Cyber Recovery Engineer

Design, implement, and operate backup and recovery solutions across on-premises and major cloud environments for financial services workloads.

Own backup policy governance, continuous validation of RTO/RPO targets, structured restore testing programs, and ensure regulatory compliance including FCA, PRA, and DORA requirements.

Lead cyber recovery design including air-gapped and immutable backups, automate infrastructure as code deployments and restore validation, and manage hybrid environment backup coverage including containerized workloads.

15+ years professional experience; 6+ years in infrastructure/platform engineering focused on backup, recovery, and data protection; minimum 3 years in financial services or regulated environment.

Hands-on production experience with Terraform and infrastructure as code tools integrated with CI/CD pipelines.

Proven working knowledge and compliance with UK/EU regulatory frameworks: FCA/PRA SS2/21, DORA, BCBS 239 in backup and recovery contexts.

Experience with both on-premises infrastructure (e.g., Cohesity, Rubrik, NetApp, Dell Data Domain) and at least one major public cloud provider (AWS, Azure, or GCP).

Technical expert in backup and recovery engineering with deep specialization in cyber-resilient backup design and regulatory compliance for financial services.

Experienced in high-governance, audit-heavy environments interfacing with Risk, Compliance, Internal and External Audit, and Regulators.

Strong automation and infrastructure as code practitioner with ability to lead cross-functional collaboration across Security, Risk, Business Continuity, SRE, and vendor management.
