Sr MTS Software Engineer, Data Platforms

Own and deliver major components of eBay’s Data Platforms from design to production rollout, focusing on building a fully declarative data platform to optimize data pipelines at scale.

Design and evolve distributed systems supporting ingestion, streaming, lakehouse/warehouse, catalog, and governance with emphasis on scalability, latency, correctness, cost, security, and compliance.

Drive operational excellence including observability and incident response; collaborate across product, infrastructure, and analytics teams to align with business needs.

12+ years of software engineering experience, primarily in distributed systems or data platforms.

Proficiency in Java and Python, CI/CD, containerized environments; hands-on experience with Kafka, Flink, Spark, Delta/Iceberg, Kubernetes, NoSQL/columnar stores.

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.

Work Experience Required: 12+ years in relevant software engineering roles.

Experienced in designing and delivering large-scale distributed systems including compute, storage, APIs, and streaming platforms.

Strong systems thinker capable of anticipating bottlenecks, schema evolutions, and reliability issues while maintaining operational excellence.

Proven ability to lead cross-team technical initiatives end-to-end with strong communication skills to influence technical decisions.
