Principal Software Engineer, Managed Databases

Own the technical execution and modernization of DigitalOcean's managed DBaaS platform into an AI-native ecosystem, focusing on system performance, resiliency, and scale.

Architect and drive solutions for distributed computing challenges impacting control plane throughput, multi-region infrastructure, and platform scalability for AI and data-heavy workloads.

Set and implement the multi-year technical roadmap and standards, including mentoring engineering staff, to ensure high availability and automated lifecycle operations under heavy operational loads.

15+ years of experience architecting and operating large-scale platform infrastructure and distributed systems.

Proven expertise in handling high-concurrency issues in cloud production environments.

Working knowledge of relational database internals (PostgreSQL and/or MySQL) preferred but not explicitly mandatory.

Location requirement: Hyderabad, India. Work Experience Required: 15+ years.

Experienced in system profiling and optimization to improve IO/CPU/network bottlenecks in database services for AI inference and compute-heavy environments.

Capable of translating complex business requirements into scalable architectural blueprints with end-to-end ownership of performance and fault tolerance.

Strong track record of leading technical strategy and mentoring senior engineers within fast-paced, distributed cloud infrastructure environments.
