Lead Quality Assurance Engineer

Own and implement the test automation strategy for Phyllo’s APIs, SDKs, and web apps, emphasizing API and UI automation within CI/CD pipelines.

Lead and mentor a small QA engineering team, including work assignment, code review, mentoring to transition from manual to automated testing, and release readiness decisions.

Collaborate closely with product managers and engineers to define acceptance criteria, reproduce/debug issues, report quality metrics, and communicate quality risks and release status.

5+ years in quality engineering, with at least 3 years focused on building test automation (not just manual testing).

Experience coding in one or more test automation languages: TypeScript/JavaScript, Python, or Java.

Strong hands-on experience automating REST API tests in code with knowledge of HTTP, OAuth/API-key auth, JSON schemas, and OpenAPI specs.

Experience building UI automation frameworks using modern tools (Playwright preferred, Cypress, or Selenium) and running tests in CI/CD setups.

Experienced leader comfortable managing and mentoring QA engineers to grow automation skills and ownership of quality.

Skilled in strategic automation design, defect triage, and quality reporting with an analytical mindset on test reliability, coverage, and pipeline feedback.

Collaborates well cross-functionally with product and engineering to shape testability and acceptance criteria, with expertise in debugging and precise bug reporting.
