About This Role

Lead a team of 5-10 engineers in developing features for HMH’s Educational Online/Digital Learning Platform using Java microservices, React frontend, AWS cloud, and AI-assisted engineering tools.

Accountable for decomposing business objectives into incrementally releasable features, contributing code, reviewing AI-generated code, and ensuring high-quality, scalable, secure software.

Drive technical direction of the engineering organization, improve team productivity, and mentor peers while leveraging agent AI technologies and cloud orchestration tools (Kubernetes, Mesos).

Minimum Requirements

6-10+ years of software engineering experience with at least 3 years in a staff or lead engineer role.

Bachelor's degree in computer science or a STEM field.

Experience with JVM languages (Java, Scala), microservices architecture, AI agent development, and AI-powered development tools (OpenAI Codex, Windsurf, GitHub Copilot).

Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure), container orchestration (Kubernetes, Mesos), databases (Postgres, NoSQL), and CI/CD tools (Jenkins, Concourse).

Ideal Candidate Profile

Technically strong leader capable of influencing engineering direction and mentoring teams in AI-enhanced software development environments.

Experienced in highly scalable distributed systems using microservices architecture and cloud-native technologies.

Demonstrates track record in delivering incremental product features with expertise in AI-assisted code generation and monitoring tools.
