Staff Engineer - Backend

Design and evolve highly scalable, reliable backend systems handling high-throughput APIs, large datasets, event-driven workflows, and critical business operations at scale.

Lead architecture and technical decisions for complex cross-team backend initiatives including APIs, databases, caching, messaging, and distributed systems.

Investigate and resolve production bottlenecks, improve system scalability, reliability, and observability, and mentor senior engineers while contributing hands-on code.

8+ years of software engineering experience with significant backend systems development at scale.

Strong proficiency in backend languages such as Node.js/TypeScript, Go, or Java.

Deep understanding of distributed systems, microservices, API design, asynchronous processing, concurrency, and event-driven architectures.

Strong knowledge of relational and NoSQL databases, caching, database indexing and query optimization, and experience diagnosing complex production issues.

Experienced in leading technically complex, multi-engineer initiatives with strong system design and architectural decision-making skills.

Operates comfortably between high-level architecture and hands-on implementation in distributed systems with large-scale data and traffic.

Skilled at improving system reliability, scalability, and operational excellence through observability, fault tolerance design, and pragmatic modernization across teams.
