About This Role
- Lead design, development, and operation of highly available distributed systems powering core GitHub platform services with billions of requests.
- Drive architecture and technical direction to improve service reliability, performance, security, and operational efficiency for mission-critical backend services.
- Own complex features across their full lifecycle and lead investigations of production issues to implement durable corrective actions.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 7+ years professional experience designing, building, and operating production software systems and backend services.
- Expertise in one or more programming languages such as C#, Java, Go, C++, Python, or Ruby with a focus on maintainable production software.
- Deep understanding of distributed systems, data structures, algorithms, concurrency, API design, and service reliability required.
Ideal Candidate Profile
- Experienced in leading complex, ambiguous technical projects with broad impact across multiple teams.
- Strong background in architecture and operation of large-scale backend and cloud systems with high availability and resilience.
- Able to mentor engineers, influence technical strategy, and collaborate effectively with diverse technical and non-technical stakeholders.
